Low Power Relay Switching
Using
a relay to remotely switch the low power to the receiver and exciter
sections of your Delta / Rangr conversion is easy to accomplish.
To do this, try to find a small relay that will fit within the radio
you are converting and epoxy it to a suitable location. For both
the Delta and Rangr conversions, I had on hand a
Radio Shack miniature P/C
relay with a 12 volt coil. The contacts are rated at 10 amps, so
it will do the job nicely. It's stock number is 275-248A.
Other low profile relays are undoubtedly suitable.
Note: Just
be sure that you use a fuse in series with the relay as it will be
drawing its power from the 'always on' lead that powers the PA final
amplifier transistors.
The relay may be epoxied to any convenient spot within the radio. In
the Delta, for example, it can be mounted in the M/P compartment. In
the Rangr, mount it on the underside in the spare compartment adjacent
to the PA transistors, as shown in this picture.

The M/P controls
TRANSMITTING as well as receiving on many frequencies, suitable for a wide range of HF,
VHF and UHF needs. In the USA, TRANSMIT operation requires a license issued
by the FCC for
the class of operation intended. Amateur radio licensees must maintain strict
control over their equipment, preventing unlicensed operation within
the amateur bands, or outside of them.
